Ecommerce development

Ecommerce development for requirements a standard store can’t meet

We build new ecommerce platforms, and new functionality on existing ones, for businesses whose pricing, catalogue, ordering and fulfilment rules are their own – on Shopify, WooCommerce, Magento and Adobe Commerce, or in custom code.

What we build

Functionality built around how the business operates

The work that separates a serious ecommerce platform from a template store is usually in these areas.

  • Pricing and trade

Customer-specific price lists, tiered and volume pricing, trade accounts with payment terms, and quotes that become orders.

  • Catalogue and configuration

Made-to-measure products priced from their dimensions and options, kits and bundles, and products that only exist as combinations of parts.

  • Ordering

Quick reorder by product code, bulk order entry, minimum order rules and approval steps for buyers who can’t sign off their own orders.

  • International selling

Several languages including right-to-left scripts, prices in local currencies, and the payment methods each market expects.

  • Checkout, payments and delivery

Payment and finance options by market or basket, deposits, delivery rules by weight, size and destination, and split shipments.

  • Accounts and documents

Trade portals, order history drawn from the ERP, returns requests and documents such as proforma invoices generated automatically.

How we decide

Built-in first, custom code where it earns its place

For every requirement we check, in order, whether the platform does it already, whether a well-supported app or extension does it properly, and only then whether it should be custom code. Every app or plugin is another subscription, another dependency and another thing that can conflict.

When custom code is the answer, it’s written the way the platform intends so the next upgrade doesn’t break it: Shopify Functions and app extensions rather than theme workarounds, WooCommerce plugins rather than edited core files, Magento modules rather than core overrides.

Shopify
Custom apps, Admin API, Shopify Functions, checkout and theme app extensions
WooCommerce
Custom plugins, hooks, REST API, HPOS-compatible order code
Magento
Modules, plugins and observers, service contracts, REST and GraphQL APIs
Custom
PHP, Node.js and Python back ends, SQL databases, REST and GraphQL APIs

In practice

What this work typically involves

A development project starts by writing down the rules the platform has to follow – how prices are calculated, who can order what, and what has to happen behind each order – and checking each one against what the platform already does.

Typical pieces of work are a store that sells in several languages, including right-to-left scripts, with prices in local currencies and the payment methods each market expects; one site serving retail shoppers and trade buyers, with quick reorder by product code and proforma invoices generated automatically; made-to-measure products priced from their dimensions and options; and finance options at checkout for high-value purchases.

The work is built in small, reviewable pieces on a staging copy, tested against real products, customers and orders, and released with a way back.

Platforms

Development by platform

  • Shopify

Custom apps, Functions and integrations for merchants with requirements beyond the App Store.

  • Shopify Plus

B2B, checkout extensions, custom Functions apps and multi-store operations.

  • WooCommerce

Custom plugins, performance work and integrations for stores that have outgrown their setup.

  • Magento and Adobe Commerce

Modules, upgrades and integrations for large catalogues and B2B.

  • Custom ecommerce

Ordering systems built from scratch when no platform fits.
